Juan Dixon is a former American professional basketball player and coach. He led the University of Maryland Terrapins to the Champion of the National University Sports Association of the 2001/2002 season. He is also a Bronze medalist of the Summer Universiade in Beijing with the US national team.

Juan Dixon was born on October 9, 1978, in Baltimore, Maryland. His father Phil Dixon and his mother Juanita Dixon were drug addicts and they died due to AIDS in 1995. Dixon’s aunt Sheila Dixon was mayor of Baltimore who with her parents Roberta and Warnick Graves raised him and his brothers and look after their education.

His brother Jermaine Dixon played the shooting guard position in the student team, the University of Pittsburgh as Pittsburgh Panthers. Juan’s second cousin Brandon Driver played college football at the cornerback position in the team California State University San Jose as San Jose State Spartans.

He attended Lake Clifton Elementary School, then attended Calvert Hall High School in a nearby town, where he played for the local basketball team under the direction of head coach Mark Amatucci.

Through a blood test, he found out that Bruce Flanigan was his real biological father, and Flanigan himself suspected that much as he had an on and off affair with Juanita when she was in high school and also when she was married to Phil. Juan began playing basketball in 2002 professionally as he was selected by the Washington Wizards in the 2002 NBA draft. After 3 years, he joined Portland Trail Blazers during the summer of 2005. in 2007, he was traded to the Toronto Raptors for Fred Jones. In 2008, he was again traded to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Primož Breeze.

He resigned from a one-year contract with the Washington Wizards in 2008 which was worth 1.03million dollars. For a short period, he played for Atlanta Hawks as well. In 2009, he joined the Aris Thessaloniki of the Greek A1 League and Unicaja Málaga of Spain for the next season.

In 2010, he was suspended for a positive steroid test, and later in 2011, he joined the Turkish team Bandırma Banvit. However, he retired from basketball and went on to be a coaching staff. He joined Maryland Terrapin as a special assistant under coach Mark Turgeon. And in 2016, he joined as head coach of the women’s basketball team at the University of the District of Columbia. He was then hired to be the head coach of the men’s basketball team at Coppin State.
