Born to his Spanish parents in Havana, Cuba in the year 1948, Maximo Alvarez is 72 years old now. Maximo was born on the 10th of June back in 1948 and he recently celebrated his 72nd birthday.
Alvarez’s parents moved to Cuba from Spain and then moved to America afterward. When Alvarez was 13, he had to move to America with his family as part of an Operation known as “Pedro Pan”.
As part of the Operation, Maximo had to stay in a children’s welfare home under the guardianship of Monsignor Bryan O. Walsh, a Catholic Priest. Along with Alvarez, 14,000 other children were also given refuge from Cuba. Maximo also had a sibling, a brother. However, his brother died shortly after Alvarez came to the USA.

Here, Alvarez received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1969 and a Master’s Degree in 1970.

After getting his Master’s Degree, Alvarez entered the oil industry in 1971 and started his career as an employee of Cities Service Company (Citgo). After 8 years of here and there, Alvarez took the opportunity to purchase four gas stations in South Florida, formed Sunshine Gasoline, and then became a distributor for the company he formerly worked for (Citgo Petroleum).
Alvarez says that people didn’t really support his decision, telling him that his choice wasn’t the wisest. However, Alvarez continued his work and eventually succeeded. He stated that he owes his success to having listened respectfully to the very best advice, then going and doing the exact opposite.
As time went on, Sunshine Gasoline continued to thrive in the oil industry and Alvarez continued pursuing any opportunity he found. Now, his company is one of the largest distributors in Florida, supplying 515 gas stations and owning 360 of them.
