Elizabeth Lederer the Central Park Five prosecutor resigned from her position as a professor at Columbia Law School on 12th June 2019. She resigned amid the heavy pressure, backlash and protest from black students.
According to TMZ,
The Black Law Students Association at Columbia called Lederer’s actions in the CP5 case “racist” … and pressured school administrators to remove her from the faculty.

Elizabeth Lederer is an active prosecutor in the New York County District Attorney’s Office. As senior trial counsel in the forensic and cold case unit, Lederer reviews and re-investigates unsolved murder and rape cases.
She has previously worked in the labor racketeering unit investing organized crime in the construction industry, as well as in the sex crimes and career criminal units.
Lederer brings several years of experience trying cases in these fields, and has taught trial practice and general litigation at various institutions.

Elizabeth Lederer Husband
Elizabeth Lederer was once married to Paul John Francis Xavier “Chip” Rudden who practiced law and worked as a legal recruiter in multiple states. Rudden was a 1977 graduated from Suffolk University School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts.
Elizabeth and Paul tied knots back in 1998, however, their marriage was short lived. Their marriage started falling apart right after the Central Park Jogger case’s first trial got concluded in August 1990. It was the time when Elizabeth got enmeshed in legal matters of a personal nature.
Paul filed for divorce with Elizabeth in May of 1990 in Nassau County. Later, Elizabeth counter-filed for divorce in New York County and that is how their relationship ended. Moreover, Elizabeth and Paul didn’t have any children from their relationship.
Further, nearly 13 years after the divorce, Paul died on May 2, 2003 after being in coma for almost 4 months since 6th January 2003.
What is Central Park Jogger Case?
It is a case based on an incident that occurred back in the spring of 1989 in Central Park, New York. It was one normal evening, like it used to be every other day. And In New York’s Central Park, a group of nearly 30 teenagers were just roaming around.
But, the scene there turned out absurd as the teenagers were harassing the homeless people and hurting others in the park.
Unfortunately the same night, a 28-year-old lady by the name Trisha Meili, was out jogging in the park as well. The white woman Meili was found in the scene beaten and raped so bad that she was in coma for 12 long days.
The Central Park Jogger case then came to existence and as a result of which; five young innocent black and Hispanic men, aged 14-16, were pronounced guilty and jailed for the crime; they didn’t commit.
Elizabeth The Lead Prosecutor in the Central Park Jogger Case
The case needed a prosecutor and Elizabeth Lederer was the one to get appointed. Being the lead prosecutor of the Central Park Jogger case; the first thing Elizabeth did was she went to visit Trisha Meili, the victim, in the hospital.
Meili was in a horrendous condition from the aftermath of what she went through in the Central Park. After paying Meili a visit, Lederer then built a case against the five teens named Korey Wise, 16, Raymond Santana, 14, Kevin Richardson, 14, Yusef Salaam, 15, and Antron McCray, 15; using the confessions obtained by police from them.
Despite not having any concrete evidence, Lederer stiil succeeded in getting the Central Park Five convicted of rape and assault! Korey Wise being the only adult in the case was sentenced as an adult, whereas the other got convicted and sentenced as juveniles.

Among the wrongfully convicted five teens Raymond was 14 when he was sent to prison. His mom died while he was serving the sentence and didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye to her.
Korey Wise, the one who served the longest sentence out of the 5, wasn’t even at Central Park that fateful night. He followed his best friend Yusef Salaam to the police station and only managed to return 13 years later. He was attacked right as he got to Riker’s Island, and was made to spend the rest of his prison term in solitary confinement.
Yusef Salaam on the other hand spent seven years in prison along with Kevin Richardson, whose relationships with some of his family and friends were never the same again.
The fifth teen, Antron McCray, moved out of New York after returning from the prison and changed his name, in the effort to start over.
