Winston Smith is a 32 years old man who was shot dead by law enforcement in Minneapolis on Thursday.

A U.S. Marshals Service statement, issued by a Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson, did not identify Smith, who is Black. Instead, the statement referred to him as a suspect and did not mention his race.

Later, a family member confirmed that the man who got shot was Winston Boogie Smith Jr. The statement said the suspect was wanted on a gun charge and was killed by members of a U.S. Marshals task force.

According to the statement by a Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department spokesman, the task force was attempting to arrest him on a state arrest warrant.

Talking of Winston’s family, not many details have surfaced in the media yet. However, he has two sisters. One of his sister’s Tamara Wilson shared Winston’s Facebook status dated 19th April where he wrote,

Mr. Smith wasn’t a married man. However, he has two kids, a daughter, and a son. From what his social media suggests, Winston was a hard-working man who wanted to give his children a better life. In one of his Instagram videos, Winston is seen talking to his daughter and son telling them how he isn’t able to spend much time with them, because of the necessity to work hard. He mentioned wanting to buy a house soon, so that his kids, could get their own space to live in.

Smith Studied at Roosevelt Senior High School. He previously worked at Elite Global Management LLC. But Winston was an aspiring artist who was known by his moniker Wince Me Boi.
