As the Manager of Player Personnel/College Scout for the last two years, Kleine became an integral part of the Vikings’ front office. Kleine scouted the Midwest region, which included Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

At Vikings, Kelly also served as the point person for all off-site scouts while also scheduling and facilitating pre-draft visits. She as well coordinated the Vikings’ efforts at all-star games and managed and trained the team’s scouting interns.

And although Kelly has established herself as a household name now, the struggle at the beginning was real. Describing how tough it was for Kelly during her internship days, she expressed,

“It was really, really frustrating, I’d just be there like, ‘God, why isn’t this coming easy to me?’ It seemed so natural to everyone else. There were definitely times I was like, ‘Should I do this? Should I not do this?’ ”

But Kelly wasn’t among the ones who gave up, she put her head down and kept going. With passing days she learned and became better. Kelly recalled, how she gained her confidence back,

“It was like six years ago or something and I submitted a report, and they read it in a meeting and were like, ‘Oh yeah,  I agree with Kelly. Something like that was like, ‘OK, I’m on the right track.’ That gave me some confidence to keep going, and here I am now.”

In 2013, Kleine graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Sports management degree from the University of Minnesota.

During her days there, Kelly had to interview someone working in sports for a class assignment. So, fortunately, Kelly ended up contacting Jeff Anderson, vice president of strategic and corporate communications for the Vikings. She got to interview him at Winter Park in Eden Prairie.

And the tables turned eventually for Kelly as she ended up giving an interview for a gameday internship.

“We ended up talking about their gameday internship. I interviewed for that and got it. That’s how I got my start with the Vikings.”
