On the 13th of February 2000, Jane’s husband Bob Dorotik went on a run near the family’s ranch and did not return home.
The next morning, his body was found on a mountain road near their home. Bob Dorotik had been beaten and strangled. Three days later, the police arrested Jane Dorotik and charged her with his brutal murder.

After her arrest, Jane Dorotik continued to claim that she was innocent. The police said that her motive for the murder was money. At the scene, the police noticed that there were three different tire tracks and they were able to track it back to Jane’s Ford F-250. The police also found a large amount of blood that someone had attempted to clean in the couple’s bedroom.
The murder trial began in May 2001, a year after the murder. She continued to plead not guilty. On June 13, 2001, the jury announced that Jane was guilty of first-degree murder. She was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
