In his line of questioning, Josh Hawley asked Khiara Bridges why she kept using the term “people with a capacity for pregnancy” and asked, “Would that be women?”
Khiara Bridges, who was one of the witnesses said that she was using this term to be inclusive of different groups such as trans men who are capable of pregnancy and non-binary people who are capable of pregnancy.
Senator Hawley countered with the statement “So, this isn’t really a women’s right issue”
Further into the hearing, Bridges said, “I want to recognize that your line of questioning is transphobic and it opens up trans people to violence.”
