She won her partisan primaried in March 2022 and will be facing Vincente Gonzalez in the general election on November 8, 2022.

On June 14th, 2022, Mayra Flores won a special election for an open congressional seat in South Texas. She beat Dan Sanchez, the leading Democrat, and will be the first Mexican-born congresswoman.
She had 50.98% of the vote and Sanchez had 43.33&. At her election night party, she said “For over 100 years, we have been taken for granted. I will show you what real representation looks like. I will represent all people.” Flores will only get to serve until January 2023.
