Drew Robinson is back to chasing his baseball dreams a year after he attempted suicide! On the 5th of May 2021, Drew got signed to the Sacramento River Cats.
It was after spending more than a year in rehabilitation, that Drew decided to chase his dreams again. For those who don’t know, on the frightful day of April 16, 2020, Drew shot himself in an attempt to commit suicide, losing his right eye.

On the suicide note that Drew wrote back in April, Daiana Anguelova was one of the names; that was mentioned on it. Drew had apologized to the people he loved in that note. So, who actually is Daiana Anguelova?
To say the least, Daiana is one of the few people, who Drew believes; loves him the most. And it isn’t just Drew’s belief, Daiana indeed loves Drew like no one else.
It was back in his high school days when Drew met Daiana. He was about to graduate from Silverado. He was asking a mutual friend to sign his yearbook. And, Daiana was there. Drew didn’t want to be rude, so he wondered whether she wanted to write something. She did. “You’re a cutie,” it said.
The new friendship that started then, continued. Drew and Daiana continued to text every so often. However, at the time, she was in college and he was obsessed with his baseball career. So, the two weren’t quite up for a relationship.
Drew Robinson and Daiana Started Dating in 2013
It had been months that Daiana hadn’t heard from Drew when one fine day a message pinged on her phone. Daiana was in the middle of a biology lab at the time. It was the end of the 2013 season. Drew had conquered High-A. The text he sent Daiana conveyed the message that he wanted to see her when he returned to Las Vegas.
Daiana was excited to see Drew. And it was at that very meet-up that both Drew and Daiana realized they were ready for one another. It felt like the two were meant to be together. Drew was funny, goofy, like the one Daiana also wanted in a partner. Meanwhile, she was everything his family wasn’t, for Drew.
A Devastating Break-Up
After dating for nearly two years, Drew and Daina’s relationship ended sometime in 2015. Drew was already dealing with insecurity and self-doubt. Thus, out of nowhere, he broke off the relationship.
Divulging into their breakup, Drew shared how he felt at the time and said,
“She’s the most selfless person I’ve ever met. So, anytime there was any little hint of me being not happy, she wanted to help. Because I was so closed off, I didn’t want that. So it pushed me away from her. I pushed myself away from her.”
Poor, Daiana, she had thought the two would get married, and just like that, it was over!
Drew Robinson Proposed Daiana to Be His Wife!
Following the break-up, Daiana didn’t leave Drew’s side! She always remained a very close friend to Drew and helped him in a way she could. Not to mention, the love between them was still there.
So eventually, the relation grew fonder yet again and in 2018, Drew took things further. In December 2018, when Drew got traded to the St. Louis Cardinals, he decided this would be a fresh start. He went on his knees asking Daiana to be his wife. She said yes!
From boyfriend-girlfriend to now fiance, things were looking good for Drew and Daiana. They even set a wedding date for Nov. 14, 2020.
The Wedding Got Called Off
Shattering Daiana’s dream of being Drew’s wife, he called off their wedding! After Drew made the Cardinals’ big league roster out of spring training things went south for him.
A week into the season, he was sent to Triple-A. Drew returned on March 31, played three games, then was sent back down. Following that Drew grew more depressed. His suicidal ideation intensified.
Robinson was worried that he will end up in the minor leagues again, and he didn’t want to put Daiana through that life. The self-doubt crawled back in Drew started thinking he wasn’t good enough for her. And that he never would be!
