Leon Higginbotham, Jr., he went on to serve as a law clerk for the Honorable Truman M. Hobbs, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama for a year.

David’s year-long experience motivated him to pursue his career as a trial lawyer. He, therefore, established his own law firm Schoen Law firm in Montgomery, Alabama, and immediately began trying cases and arguing appeals in cases in both state and federal courts.

Schoen started his law career as a criminal defense lawyer along with civil rights work. He represented criminals and secured wins in numerous criminal cases ranging from capital murder to rape, robbery, narcotics offenses, and other violent crimes.

David’s popularity rose immensely as he started his defense practice in Alabama to Michigan, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, West Virginia, South Carolina, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and elsewhere, with a heavy concentration in New York City.

In his long career of more than 30 years, David has been honored by the American Bar Association with its national pro bono public award 1995. In 2015, David got honored with Honorable David S. Nelson Public Interest Award, named for a great federal judge and humanitarian by Boston College Law School.
