In 2004, when Enrique Tarrio was 20, he was accused of stealing a $55,000 motorcycle and sentenced to three years’ probation.
Recently on 4 January, 2021 Tarrio was detained by Washington, D.C. Police and charged with one count of property damage, a misdemeanor offense.

Tarrio is the owner of the Miami T-shirt store, known as the 1776 Shop, which is an online right-wing merchandise vendor. He described the 1776 Shop as a “freewheeling online emporium for far-right merch” that sells a selection of Proud Boys’ gears. He has also established an installation company for security equipment and another supplying business with GPS monitoring.
After punching people who are said to be an Antifa supporter in the face, Tarrio became a fourth-degree member of the Proud Boys, a distinction reserved for those who get into a physical altercation. On November 29, 2018, he assumed the position of President of the company, succeeding Jason Lee Van Dyke.
In 2020, Tarrio launched a run for Congress for the 27th district of Florida but withdrew before the Republican Party primary.
During the September presidential debate, Trump was asked to denounce the Proud Boys and other militant right-wing groups linked to white supremacy, and instead told the party to “stand back and stand by,” adding that “someone has to do something about Antifa and the left.”
