Ratner joined the Nevada Athletic Commission in 1985. He became the Chief Inspector of the Nevada athletic commission in 1987 and Executive Director in 1992. Ratner left the Nevada Athletic Commission and joined the UFC as its vice president for regulatory affairs on May 15, 2006.

Ratner was previously elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame (2016), the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame (2013), the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame (2006), and the World Boxing Hall of Fame (2005).
Under Rainer’s supervision, the regulation of MMA has expanded worldwide. When Marc first joined UFC, there were approximately 20 States that regulated mixed martial arts. As of today, MMA is legal in all 50 states, as well as Canada and Mexico. Each day, Ratner works to continue these efforts globally and is currently in regulatory discussions with France and Western Australia, along with other countries and territories.
