Born in 1958 in a hospital at the Andrews Army Base of the US Air Force, Michael Steele was adopted by Maebell and William Steele, a modest and Catholic couple.
Unfortunately, in fragile health due to alcoholism problems, his adoptive father died when Michael Steele was only four years old. His mother, who refused to beg for social assistance money by saying ‘I didn’t want the government raising my children, earned a living as a laundry maid. She then remarried an army truck driver named John Turner. The couple then raised Michael and his younger sister Monica.
