Firstly, Porter played basketball for Athletes in Action, a Christian sports organization that includes former college players in Cincinnati. AIA sent athletes as mentors to high school students into inner-city Cincinnati. Michael organized Bible study sessions, tutoring for basketball leagues in 1991. He grew close with many of the students.
Students could not understand the words, so to teach them about the Bible and life lesson, he began his rapping session as most of the students loved rapping at that time. Porter, with no musical background, started composing raps as his new teaching method. The student started getting him and his valuable lessons. He had the idea to change his career as rapping; however, he remained attached to basketball.
From 2003-06, Porter served as head coach of Upward Basketball; this is where he got most of his basketball experience. Michael worked with athletes to develop not only basketball skills but also skills needed to build confidence and a more decisive character. Porter also played professionally with AIA for five seasons, where he competed around the country and world and spread his spiritual guidance.
Before the 2019-20 season, Porter became director of player development after spending his first two years at Mizzou as an assistant coach. Recently contract of a three-year deal for $1.125 million was expired on the last day of April this year and wasn’t renewed by Missouri Tigers men’s basketball.

Michael Porter Sr. is married to the love of his life Lisa Becker for over 25 years now. They met each other back in the early ’90s and eventually fell in love.
In the early 1990s, Michael Porter was injured at his knees and left YMCA in Lebanon, Ohio. Porter was going with a bag of ice strapped to each of his knees; while the Athletes in Action basketball team had been practicing. In the meantime, Lisa Becker walked into him and they instantly had some connection.

Talking more about Michael’s wife, Lisa Becker, is the sister of Robin Pingeton, a Coach of Missouri women’s basketball, while Michael was formerly an assistant coach for the MU women’s team. Lisa stands at 6 feet and four inches, which is an excellent height for a basketball woman.
She averaged 45 points in her high school. Lisa is also one of the all-time leading scorers at Iowa while on Team USA. She went overseas to play when there was no WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association).
