As we all know, Erykah’s first relationship that made news was with Andre 3000, an American rapper. Erykah and Andre dated for about four years starting from 1995. Sometimes after their breakup, Erykah then got romantically involved with Common. This time around, Erykah’s relationship was short-lived as the just dated for over a year from 2000-2002.
They collaborated on several singles while they were together, but eventually broke up. Common would later say the breakup was particularly hard on him and that he had trouble eating as a result of it.
Moving on, the next man who entered the dating scene with Erykah was the rapper The D.O.C. in 2003. Their relationship was more like a short fling, however, Erykah and The D.O.C ended up having a child out of their tryst. In the years since Erykah has had no interest in getting back together with The D.O.C. They have shared parental responsibilities for their child, but that is the extent of their relationship.
The next man in Erykah Badu’s boyfriend’s list is Jay Electronica. Badu and Jay were together for almost five years from 2004-2009. Out of all her relationships, Erykah and Jay seemingly had a rough breakup. Erykah at one point of time had a restraining order on this him.
After Jay, Badu seemingly took a long break from the dating game as she remained single for almost 4 years. However, she eventually found love with a producer for The Boondocks and Black Dynamite, Carl Jones.
Carl was in a relationship with Erykah Badu from 2013 to 2018. The two met while Erykah was performing a guest spot for Black Dynamite, and they hit it off.
Finally, we have now reached the latest love interest of Ms. Erykah Badu, Ishmael Butler. In late 2018 Erykah was rumored to be dating Ishmael, the rapper, producer, and songwriter known as “Butterfly” in jazz-rap group Digible Planets.

Badu has three loving children from three different men that she dated at different point of time in her life. She is very vocal about the importance of her children in her life and keeps mentioning them in most of her interviews.
The father of her oldest child, Seven Sirius Benjamin, is rapper Andre 3000 from OutKast. Erykah gave birth to Seven on 18th November 1997 and he is 22 years old now.
Badu’s middle child is a girl named Puma Sabti Curry, whose father is West Coast rapper The D.O.C. Erykah welcomed her daughter Puma on 5th July 2014 and she is 15 years old currently.
Lastly, Erykah’s youngest child is a girl named Mars Merkaba Thedford, whose father is rapper Jay Electronica. Budu gave birth to Mars on 2nd February 2009, which makes her 11 years old as of 2020.
In a 2015 interview with Inquisitr, Badu discussed what it’s like being a mother. She told the outlet,
“The best part of being a mom is that I get to grow with my children… The funniest thing any of my kids has said was when I moved into my first house. My son, Seven, who was 3, said, ‘What if somebody breaks in on us?’ I said, ‘Don’t worry, I got something to throw at his head.’ And he said, ‘What you gonna do, throw some money at him?”
Also, in her interview with People, Badu revealed that she birthed all three children at home. She told the outlet that she preferred having her children in a “natural” environment, where there wasn’t too much fuss. In her own words,
“When a mother has found out she’s going to have a baby, her whole life — her diet, her mood, her energy — should kind of prepare her. After she prepares herself, fear is never a part of it. I expected success and health, so I made sure I surrounded myself with it. By the time I had my third baby, childbirth seemed a very natural part of life to me.”
I think that saying she had many boyfriend and then going on to list 5 people was pushing it. Also, using language like “baby daddies” is harmful and inappropriate. I just wanted to know who she is dating now. I guess the article but let’s do better with our word choices next time. There were a lot of assumptions and underlying themes there.
