Her father Fran Katz is a pediatrician and her mother is a homemaker. She was interested in rapping since she was 5. Her love of rap can be traced back to her parents were huge fans of Biggie and Tupac. While her parents listened to the rappers of the 90s, Skylar became fascinated with modern-day rappers like Nicki Minaj and Drake.

However, she did not plan on becoming a rapper when she was a child. At first, she wanted to become a doctor just like her father but gradually developed desire to become a professional rapper.

She also loved playing basketball and played for three different traveling teams by the age of 10. While growing up, she developed an interest in basketball.

Sky Katz on America’s Got Talent (AGT)

Sky watched TV a lot and was highly inspired by talent-hunt shows. In 2016, when the 11th season of ‘America’s Got Talent’ was announced, she decided that she would audition for it. Without telling her parents she recorded and sent her audition tapes. However, she later stated in interviews that it was not easy fooling her parents.

Her performance at the audition was appreciated and at the age of 11, she was on the biggest American talent-hunt show.

For her first act, she sang an original song ‘Fresh,’ which had the judges mesmerized. The video of her performance became viral, gaining more than five million views and overnight she became a teenage sensation. The judges and the audiences of the 11th season of ‘America’s Got Talent’ regarded her as one of the brightest stars on the show.

Simon Cowell, one of the most brutal judges on the show also labeled her as the  “coolest 11-year old in the world.” This terrific beginning helped her reach the ‘Judge Cuts’ episode.

In the ‘Judge Cuts’ episode, she performed the song ‘Party Ain’t a Party.’ Even though this performance was also adored by the judges, but it was not deemed good enough to send her to the quarterfinals.
