Early Life, Real Name, Father/ Mother of 147 Calboy
The real name of 147 Calboy is Calvin Woods. He was born in the South Side, Chicago, but later relocated to Calumet City, Illinois. Like many rappers of the area he was raised by a single mother along with his 4 siblings. The details of his father is not known.
“My OG got 5 kids, she work everything herself along with my grandma, it was hard. I mean, trying to make a way now. I always rapped since the 6th, 7th grade. I was rapping, beating on the tables rapping. Rapping all the time. But I ain’t ever take it seriously like my sophomore year of high school. Then I told everyone like nah, I’m a rapper. I told my OG, I ain’t going to college, I’m a rapper. She was like boy you better go get a job. I was like, “Nah, we going to make it in rapping.” And we made it in rapping.”He says in his interview with Genius.
He further added,
“I’m from Chicago, I’m from the South Side of Chicago, but I moved to Calumet City which is the south burbs. So, that’s where the 147 comes from, that’s Sibley Boulevard is 147th. I mean I stayed there for a while, so 147 got added to my name and my name is Calvin. That’s where CalBoy comes from.”
Growing up, Calboy had great interest in visual art, “I was painting and drawing before I was rapping. I was drawing everything from anime to Chibi characters. I just started to get into the paints. I do a lot of that in my spare time. Whenever I got free time, I try to get some canvases done.” He expressed in his interview with xxlmag.
Along with his musical career, he wants to be a positive force for young men and women. In 2019, Calboy and Chance the Rapper made an appearance at Chicago’s Becoming A Man: MLK UNITY DAY, whose mission is “Youth guidance creates and implements school-based programs that enable children to overcome obstacles, focus on their education and, ultimately, to succeed in school and in life.”
Calboy uses prescription drugs and marijuana to cope with anxiety issues. The rapper admits he wants to come off them, and that it is a struggle. His Song titled “fatality“ is where he uses his music to express his mental health. He also addresses how he hates when artist promotes drug use in their music.
“A lot of that ain’t even real. You feel me. I mean I take Xanax and I take pop pills for real. These niggas out here just preaching something and talking about these things they ain’t even doing. They don’t even have these issues to cope with so it’s like why are you preaching it? Wood taught himself to record and started a rap group consisting of friends called K.O.B. By the age of 14, Calboy began producing his own content, utilizing cracked music programs and YouTube tutorials.
By the age of 19, he has released three major mixtapes and one debut single,”Envy Me“.He also partnered with Polo Grounds Music, RCA Records and currently represents his imprint Paper Gang Music, of which he is the only flagship artist.
17-year old Calvin began his career by releasing his first mix-tape “The Chosen One” in early 2017. The LP garnered him local praise in the Chicago rap scene.

“My Senior year, all of my homies got expelled. They brought the dogs in the school, they got hit in the lockers, everybody getting caught with weed. The whole time, I ain’t got weed in my locker so I don’t get booked. But that’s what I was going off of. I was a good student, I was a cool student. I got decent grades. I liked my African History class. My African History class was my best class.
Calboy further gave a shout-out to his American History teacher and recalled some of the memories from back then,
Shout-out to Ms. Peppers, she going to see this. I love that lady. I love that class. That really gave me some inspiration too, just knowing our history, you feel me? African history. People back then were strong, so when I look at a lot of niggas now, I be like what a fucking shame. We supposed to become better than that. I love my African History class. I mean, niggas going to get in they drama, but I was decent in school, I was regular. I wasn’t no super hot head, but niggas knew not to play in school. Because we so deep, it’s the mob. They know what’s going on.”
