Popular comedian-actor was announced as the host for the upcoming 91st Academy Awards a couple of days back. But as of today, the comedian who is currently touring Sydney said in a tweet that he has decided to step down as the host for the Oscar.
The whole farrago started when a series of tweets made by Kevin Hart in 2011 surfaced on Twitter. Most of these tweets have been deleted as of now. One of the tweets from the comedian said, “Yo if my son comes home & try’s 2 play with my daughters doll house I’m going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice ‘stop that’s gay’.”
There has been a lot of outrage over these anti-gay tweets from Kevin Hart. People accused the comedian of being Homophobic.
In response, Kevin Hart came out with an Instagram video saying he is 40 years old now, people make mistakes but grow and evolve with time. Later he came out with another Instagram video saying that Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has asked him to issue an apology and now he has decided to pass on the apology and step down as the Oscar Host.
Later, Hart apologized to the LGBTQ community through a tweet and also confirmed that he had made a choice to step down from hosting Oscar in 2019.
I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.
