Blake Morris on PoseFX

Ryan Murphy’s American Drama series is filled with tons of bold characters including, Dyllon Burnside (Ricky Evangelista)Jeremy McClain (Cubby), Jason A. Rodriguez (Lemar), and Angel Bismark Curiel (Lil Papi)

Meanwhile, Blake’s character Keenan is also one of them! He as well plays a gay character like many others on the show and describing what it felt like to play that character Blake made an Instagram post on July 2019.

In the post Blake described how people reacted to his role in the series including his mother who was disappointed and heartbroken. Also he elaborated on how he felt; taking on the risk to portray a character that he didn’t resonate to. He wrote,

My mother (who is very Christian 🙏🏽 lol) was heartbroken & disappointed when I told her I was going to kiss a man on network TV. I got a ton of mixed reactions from old/current friends. But doing this work made me have to be very clear about the fact yearsss ago, I devoted my life to telling stories about blackness. About black love. Black resilience. Black resistance. Black joy. Black identity.

Morris further added,

The fluidity with which I navigate my own expression of masculinity/femininity is what lives in my work. It’s the grounding wire that I use to undo my own toxic masculinity, homophobia/transphobia, misogynistic ways of thinking, etc. I kissed a man on network TV because my fears about people’s perceptions don’t mean shit compared to the violence that black queer/trans folks face every moment of their lives. I kissed a man on network TV because I know myself. Because I love myself and I love this WORK. And loving this work means risking everything to be yourself. I hope that I get to continue to take those risks. And that the result always ends up being this wildly terrifying and incredibly beautiful
