The 42-year-old corrections officer at the federal lockup in Manhattan, Colin Akparanta, is accused of sexually assaulting four female inmates for over five years.
The New Jersey residence, Colin, is charged with four counts of abusive sexual contact,‘ four counts of ‘sexual abuse of a ward and deprivation of civil rights.
Akparanta got arrested on May 21 and was arraigned before Federal Magistrate Judge Debra Freeman, where he pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Meanwhile, Akparanta’s lawyer, Lance Clarke, said,
“Colin still has his job but that he has been on worker’s compensation for the past six months.”
Also as per the reports, Lara Pomerantz, the assistant US Attorney, told Debra that Colin has been kept under investigation since October 2018 by his employer. It was further stated that during an interview; Akparanta admitted giving money to one of his victims.
For now, the correctional officer, Colin, is being held on a $200,000 bond.
